History and Charter of sci.med.diseases.lyme usenet group (archived at: google.com)

The following information below provides insight into the original concept for this usenet group, who voted on it's approval as a public usenet group, the purpose of the group, etc. Most of the content is archived at google.com and links are provided to these references.

I have nothing to do with the founding of this unmoderated, newsgroup. Anyone claiming to be "newsgroup leader" by vote is not speaking of an official vote conducted at the newsgroup. If there was any such "vote", anywhere, he has never presented evidence of that. Usenet posts lists of all voters involved in acceptance of new usenet groups. There is no provision in the charter for appointment of a "newsgroup leader." (see below)

Usenet, has the potential to be a very useful tool. However, it is the breeding grounds for misuse, misinformation, disinformation, spam and other problems. Anything posted at a newsgroup should be critically evaluated and tested against available resources for confirmation of validity.

Due to the nature of this newsgroup and it's unique composite of partipants, one should use utmost scrutiny in perusing the posts there. Beware of recommendations for treatment often posted by lay people. Not that all posts of that nature are inaccurate, but it is best to consult with your health care provider and do extensive research before trying something on your own.

Please read my disclaimer and advisory about this usenet group. I developed the advisory as a response to inappropriate, insulting posts and motives by some frequent "posters" at this usenet group.
