CONNECTICUT LYME DISEASE HEARING

JANUARY 29, 2004

Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal and Commissioner of the Department of Public Health J. Robert Galvin, M.D., M.P.H., are sponsoring a hearing to address the concerns of the citizens of Connecticut on Lyme disease. The hearing will be held on January 29, 2004 at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford CT. It is open to the public and not limited to CT residents. We STRONGLY ENCOURAGE your attendance, the presence of a large audience will demonstrate to State officials the impact of Lyme disease in Connecticut and encourage action on their part. To observe the proceedings Please RSVP your intent to attend to Randall Nelson, CT Dept. of Public Health, (860) 509-7994.

Lyme Disease has reached epidemic proportions in Connecticut. We must voice our concerns in regards to the growing problem of tick-borne diseases and the impact these diseases are having on individuals, families and entire communities.

Please show you support for this effort by doing the following:

ATTEND THE HEARING ON JANUARY 29 , 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. It is essential that you RSVP to Randall Nelson, CT Dept of Public Health (860) 509-7994. Seating space will be reserved based on the RSVP numbers. The hearing is open to the public and not limited to CT residents. FILL OUT AND SUBMIT A LYME DISEASE SURVEY. This is the best way to let the State of Connecticut know how Lyme Disease has affected your family and friends. Hard copies of these stories will be submitted at the hearings to demonstrate the incredible toll this insidious disease has taken on Connecticut’s citizens. The survey may be printed and hand written, or filled out on line. Please return before January 18th. Participation in the survey is not limited to Connecticut residents. CT RESIDENTS CONTACT YOUR STATE AND FEDERAL REPRESENTATIVES Inform them of your concerns and ask for their attendance and support at the hearing. Our representatives need to be educated on the issues of tick-borne diseases. If Lyme disease is important to you, it will be to them. LYME DISEASE HEARING
Perspectives on Lyme Disease

On January 29, 2004, the Connecticut Department of Public Health and the Connecticut Attorney General's Office will hold a hearing regarding Lyme disease in Room 2E of the Legislative Office Building located at 300 Capitol Avenue in Hartford. The intent of this hearing is to promote dialogue among the participants and provide a forum for the exchange of Lyme disease information as presented from the perspective of patients, healthcare providers, scientists, and government officials. Today's notice announces the agenda for this hearing. Attendance by medical care providers, public health practitioners, and the public at this important hearing is encouraged.
